- 2008 Statistical Abstract - U.S. Census Bureau - Contains statistical information on everything about the American people from population to income levels and the arts. An authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States.
- Almanac of Policy Issues - A portal of social issues sites including criminal justice, culture and society, the environment, foreign affairs, health, and more. Broader categories are further divided in sub-categories.
- Ask Oxford - A site dedicated to words and language. Lots of fun information as well as links to other sites and a searchable imformation base.
- Background Notes Series - A serial publication by the U.S. Department of State, Background Notes provides updated profiles of countries of the world with information on government, economics, geography, people, languages, and foreign relations.
- Best Information on the Net - O'Keefe Library - A portal of sites created by librarians at St. Ambrose University. It helps you find multiple sites on a huge variety of subjects. There are three ways to search; alphabetically by subject, hot paper topics, and resources by college major.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics Database - Provides income and employment statistics for the nation, states, and metro areas.
- Catalog of US Government Publications - An online catalog of government publications, some of which have hypertext links to the documents. Marc records are available for librarians.
- Census Atlas of the United States - The Census Atlas is a large-format publication about 300 pages long and containing almost 800 maps. Data from decennial censuses prior to 2000 support nearly 150 maps and figures, providing context and an historical perspective for many of the topics presented.
- Consumer Search - Gathers product reviews on everything from TVs to toasters from a variety of rated sources.
- FactCheck - A nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. FactCheck monitors the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. FactCheck's goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding. FactCheck.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
- FBI- Freedom of Information Act - This site includes historical documents about groups and individuals who have come under the FBIs scrutiny for criminal and political activities throughout modern American history. Information on UFOs and other unexplained phenomena are also included.
- Finding Data on the Internet - A site designed for journalists, the site includes some of the best and most popular sites for getting statistics on crime, education, etc. It also includes a basic tutorial on understanding and using research and statistical data in writing.
- Florida Digital Newspaper Archive - Provides historical and recent issues of many Florida newspapers.
- Florida Electronic Library - A gateway portal to be used to access a variety of online electronic resources including a statewide union catalog, licensed databases, locally-created and/or locally-hosted databases, state and local government resources and educational resources.

- Librarians' Index to the Internet - A large directory of Web sites chosen by librarians for library users.
- MagPortal - A portal to online magazines arranged by subjects, such as health, science or business. A search engine is provided.
- Meta-Subject Index to Government Information - This index is intended to direct the user to subject indexes which have been created for the purpose of identifying government internet resources in a given subject area.

- Newspapers of the United States and the World - Provides links to newspaper websites throughout the United States and the world.
- NWFSC Article Database Gateway - Provided by the State of Florida and by Northwest Florida State College for NWFSC students, the Electronic Resources page is the gateway to articles about a wide variety of topics. - Occupational Outlook Handbook - Produced by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, the handbook provides forecasts, salaries, and working conditions for a variety of career fields.
- Online Books Page - A website that facilitates access to books that are freely readable over the Internet. It also aims to encourage the development of such online books, for the benefit and edification of all.
- Open Directory Project - A large directory of Web sites chosen by volunteer category editors.

- Polling Report.com - Provides access to polls on a wide variety of topics in the news.
- Population Reference Bureau - Analyses of demographic information as it relates worldwide to health, employment, the environment, fertility, education, race, and more.
- Reader's Advisory - This site has a large variety of reading lists for every age group and has links to additional websites.
- Science.gov - A browsable, searchable database for finding government sites about the hard sciences and technology. Topics covered include agriculture, biology, energy, civic planning, math, physics, computers, and space exploration.
- SearchEdu.com - A search engine that targets educational institution sites. It can pull up school home pages and faculty papers on a wide variety of topics.
- SearchGov.com - Provides a search and directory for federal and state government agencies addressing a wide variety of topics. A useful page for searching on almost any public affairs topic.
- Snopes.com - Urban Legends Reference Pages - The authors investigate and debunk rumors or so-called urban legends as they become widespread.
- Statistical Resources on the Web - Organized by subject this portal gives links to statistical information. Some of the links are only available to U of Michigan students.
- Textbook Revolution - This site is wiki-based and allows users to add and review books directly.It also is a source for free educational materials.
- United States Copyright Office - Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of "original works of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Find information on copyright law at this site.
- US Government Printing Office - This site describes the purpose of the U.S. Government Printing office and gives access to information from congress and other federal publishers.
- Virtual Library - An index of high quality website links on many different topics which include agriculture, business & economics, computing, communications, education, engineering, humanities, information & libraries, international affairs, law, recreation, regional studies, science, and society.
- Vital Statistics- US Census Bureau - A document in Adobe Acrobat, the statistics are gathered from the census and from various other sources. The tables cover birth rates, deaths, marriages and divorces by race, sex, and age.
- Voice of America News - A page of international news provided by the famous broadcasting company.
- Who's Alive and Who's Dead - A listing of deaths of famous people. Includes many short biographies. A variety of fields are included, but entertainment, politics, and sports are dominant.
- Wikipedia Encyclopedia - A searchable encyclopedia of information. While the articles themselves can be of uneven quality, Wikipedia can be a good source for lists of reference material and web sites about a given topic.
- World Public Library - eBook Library - This website is "a global coordinated effort to preserve and disseminate classic works of literature, serials, bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias and other reference works in a number of languages and countries around the world." Note: There is a section of this site that offers free access to over 25,000 titles. To see all titles available there is a yearly fee.
- World Statesmen - A database featuring a chronological listing of the heads of state of nations and colonies since 1760. The database includes the leaders of international, religious, and governmental organizations. The resource features maps, flags, and lyrics of national anthems, and offers access to the full text of selected constitutions.
- Your Dictionary.com - A collection of dictionaries and thesauri, which includes rhyming dictionaries, multilingual resources, word games, and specialized dictionaries.
