How Do I...

Find a book on the shelf?

To find a book on the shelf, start with the Location. The collection in the Northwest Florida State College Learning Resources Center is divided into sections:

Circulating Books that can be checked out. Located on 2nd floor with the exception of books on reserve* and the leisure reading section**.
Reference (REF) Books containing information in a compact form, bibliographies, or indexes. Non-circulating. Located on 1st floor.
Florida Ref (REF-RF) - Books about Florida or by Florida authors. Non-circulating. Located on 1st floor.
Periodicals Scholarly journals, popular magazines and newspapers in paper, bound, or microform. Non-circulating. Located on 1st floor.
Audio-Visual Videocassettes, CDs, DVDs, Tape Cassettes, Records. Located on 1st floor.

Next, look at the beginning of the Call Number for subdivisions of these sections:

Section Call Number Location
Reference ATLAS Located on 1st Floor
Reference MAP Located on 1st Floor
Reference CHART Located on 1st Floor
Periodicals INDEX Located on the Periodical Index section of the shelves on the 1st Floor

Remember to look at the STATUS of the book, for special locations and conditions, including:

*Reserve - When books from the Circulating Collection have been moved to Reserve, they are held at the circulation desk. Books on Reserve may only be used within the LRC and may not be checked out.

**Leisure Reading - Located on the 1st floor.

Last, use the Call Number to find the exact location of each book. Ask an LRC staff member if you need help.
